Rosalia Lombardo, a girl who died at just two years old, about 100 years ago, was considered the most beautiful mummy in the world.
According to theories, after so many years the mummy looks so realistic and so intact that several researchers have said it could be a fake. The embalmed body still has blond hair and smooth skin. Apparently, the blanket covering her would also never have been pulled back, suggesting that she might not have had arms or legs.
After extensive testing and analysis, the results showed that the organs were still intact and the brain had only shrunk to 50% of its original size.
The body of Rosalia Lombardo, displayed in a glass coffin in Capuchin catacombs, Palermo, Sicily, Italy, attracts hundreds of tourists.
Another version is that the girl winked at some tourists. However, according to curator of the catacombs, Dario Piombino-Mascali, the newspaper quoted independentnothing but “an optical illusion created by light coming through the side windows, which can change throughout the day.”
“[Os seus olhos] are not completely closed and, in fact, never were,” Mascali admitted.
The official version of the death of the girl is unknown, but the urban legend says that Rosalia was mummified after his father had difficulty coping with his daughter’s death. It was a way to keep her alive. The girl is considered the daughter of a wealthy Italian army general named Mario Lombardo.
