Leandro Lo, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter and world champion in this modality, was shot in the head by a police officer during a party in Sao Paulo early this Sunday.

According to an incident report prepared by the São Paulo military police, accessed by Globo Esporte, Leandro got into an altercation with Enrique Otavio Oliveira Veloso that ended in the worst possible way.

“This is an incident involving multiple world jiu-jitsu champion Leandro Lo Pereira do Nascimento and military police officer Enrique Otavio Oliveira Veloso. According to witnesses, after a short discussion, the policeman approached the victim’s table, grabbing a bottle. With one blow, Leandro knocked down and immobilized the author [o polícia] blow, taking the bottle out of her hand. At this moment, several comrades of the victim separated the two involved and asked for silence. Rising, the author walked around the table, grabbed a pistol and fired a shot, which hit the victim in the frontal area of ​​the head.

Leandro was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he did not survive.
