President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has unveiled a government diploma establishing the programming of infrastructure and equipment for the security forces and services of the Ministry of the Interior, the website of the presidency reported on Monday.
On July 28, the government approved an investment of more than 607 million euros to improve and modernize the infrastructure and equipment of the security forces and services.
The investment is planned as part of the programming of infrastructure and equipment for the forces and security services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, calculated over several years until 2026.
Minister of the Interior José Luis Carneiro explained that this is an investment of more than 607 million euros, which continues an investment program launched in 2017, in which more than 340 million euros have already been realized.
Most of the amount approved is for infrastructure (€236 million) and information and communication technology systems (€250 million).
According to the minister, there is still about 64 million euros for the purchase of new vehicles and 11.5 million euros for the acquisition of new weapons “better suited to the requirements of threats and risks.”
It is also planned to procure personal protective equipment for police officers in the amount of 15 million euros, equipment for specialized functions in the amount of 22 million euros and equipment to support professional activities in the amount of 5 million euros.
