AT briefing took place this Wednesday in connection with the rural fire that broke out in the city of Garrocho, the parish of Cantar Galo and Vila do Carvalho, in the municipality of Covilhã (Castelo Branco), the Regional Commander of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, Elisio Oliveira reported that 1,146 operatives are involved in the fight against the flames, supported by five aircraft.
According to Elisio Oliveira, the fire has already spread to Manteigas again, the goal this Thursday is “to put funds ahead of the fire.”
To date, the commander has said there are restrictions as “Canadair aircraft were out of service all day”, making it difficult to put out the fire.
“You need to have the right carrier in the right place,” said Elisio Oliveira.
At 10:48 pm on Wednesday, they put out the flames. 1293 serviceable, 402 vehicles and one air transport.
The fire broke out at 3:18 am on Saturday in the city of Garrosho, district of Cantar Galo and Vila do Carvalho, in the municipality of Covilhã (Castelo Branco), and spread to Manteigas, in the district of Guarda.
A light rural firefighting helicopter crashed while fighting fires in Covilhã on Tuesday afternoon, with no deaths or injuries.
In the same fire, three firefighters and a forest ranger were slightly injured during the fighting on Tuesday.
At a press conference in the early evening, the regional operational commander of the Center emphasized that the situation in the municipality of Manteigas was “a very serious situation.”
“The situation that worries us the most is the fire front in the municipality of Manteigas. There are two active fronts, one in the municipality of Covilhã and the other in the municipality of Manteigas,” said António Ribeiro, admitting that he was expecting a “difficult night” and a lot of work.
By 5:45 a.m. there are no other active fires on the Portuguese mainland.
188 firefighters with 48 land assets were involved in consolidation or clean-up, for a total of 11 incidents.
