The state loses tens of billions of euros every year through tax fraud. In the fight against tax fraudsters, Baden-Württemberg is now relying on information from the population – with the help of an online reporting platform.
In the hunt for tax fraudsters, the tax administration in Baden-Württemberg is now also relying on online information from the population. A corresponding reporting platform should offer whistleblowers “a secure and anonymous communication channel” to report violations, said the Ministry of Finance in Stuttgart. It is the first portal of its kind in Germany. Several media had reported on this.
“This way we can better pursue tax fraud and ensure more tax justice,” said state finance minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens). “We are also promoting digitization and enabling easy communication between the tax administration and citizens.” The tax administration has so far received anonymous reports by telephone, in writing or in person.
According to the finance minister, reporting platform for tax fraud is “digital, secure and nonetheless anonymous”.
According to the Ministry of Finance, essential information was often missing, but queries were often not possible due to the anonymity. This should change with the new platform – “digital, secure and still anonymous”.

In order to make the whole thing financially possible, the party around Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock is considering tax increases.
