Cress and hygienic wipes: this is how the parties are catching votes

The ÖVP tries to cook the voters with a recipe booklet (“Culinary treasures from Upper Austria”). Pictures in it show Governor Thomas Stelzer together with celebrity chefs, adjusted with apron and mixing spoon, in the kitchen. The other black choice goodies are classic and yellow: sweets, lemon treats and pencils – the latter, by the way, significantly larger than those of the competition.

Word games are in high season

The FPÖ also relies on amateur cooks and supplies them with letter noodles to promote the German language. Incidentally, alphabet soup is not included in the ÖVP cookbook, just a “clear beef soup”, which could well go with the noodles. In addition, they give away the blue work gloves (“We tackle”), gym bags and friendship bracelets, and the “Mandi” bear (named after LH deputy top candidate Manfred) should not be missing Haimbuchner, Note). In addition to the usual coolies, lighters and candy this time – probably due to the pandemic – there are also hygienic towels.

According to its own statement, the SPÖ refrains from giving-aways (“We focus on topics”). So far only candies and red pens (made of paper) are in circulation. Candidates for the local elections sometimes distribute their own goodies – such as notebooks, personalized lighters or even cooked-in items.

The Greens stick with their fabric shopping bag in party color, this time according to the election campaign motto with the words “Klimaglück mit dir”. There are also bags with plant seeds. You can choose from a mixture for a beneficial willow and cress for a green plate.

In addition to pink-transparent beach balls, pink glasses and cloth bags (Sustainable Future “), the Neos also distribute candies, beer tokens (” Because the future is your beer “) and hygiene towels – conveniently in combination with a pink FFP2 mask.
