The government passes a law to support families and strengthen the means of fighting fires. see what has changed

A decree of law has been approved that strengthens family benefits and changes levels of access, as well as a child guarantee provision that supports families and young people under the age of 18 living in extreme poverty, the Minister of Labor, Solidarity, said on Thursday. and social security, Ana Mendez Godinho.

According to the governor, the II National Youth Plan was also approved. The Council of Ministers also approved the cost of acquiring 81 fire trucks for the countryside at a time when fires are engulfing Portugal.

Ana Méndez Godinho said the tools to help families “are decisive”, with the strengthening of the family allowance, to ensure that all families with children receive at least 600 euros of state support for each child, “be it family and IRS”. “We have introduced a family allowance measure for levels I and II, which corresponds to the child tax credit,” explained Ana Mendez Godinho.

The measure, implemented in stages, will cover 400,000 children. It will begin to be paid in September, “with retroactive payments from July 1, 2022” and “end in 2023, when all children will be [apoio] 50 euros per month, regardless of age.”

The family allowance will change the scales “so that benefit scales can be adjusted to adapt them to what has been in the evolution of the minimum wage.” This measure will affect 80 thousand children, so that they will be covered by III and IV levels.

Ana Mendez Godinho emphasized the “principle of universality” in measures to help children and households. With regard to the Child Guarantee Mechanism, to combat the situation of children at risk of extreme poverty, it consists of an additional allowance to the family allowance for children in such a situation, which will be paid automatically. The government says 123,000 children will be covered.

This new measure will be phased in, initially at €70 per month and then increased to €100 per month in 2023.
