“It is indeed the agreement with the United States that all people who arrive from the United States to travel on to the United States via Ramstein or at other US bases in Germany should also leave Germany,” said a spokesman of the Foreign Office on Wednesday in Berlin. “There are corresponding commitments from the USA.”
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, an agreement has been reached with the USA that regulates the processes in Ramstein. A spokesman for the ministry said on Wednesday that the Afghans could stay there “for a certain period of time, a few weeks”. About 1,800 more people should arrive on Wednesday within 12 hours. Around 11,700 evacuees have already flown 51 flights from Ramstein Air Base to the United States or other safe destinations.
