Bundestag election: Scholz indicates a decision between R2G and GroKo

It is one of the most frequently asked questions about the federal election: If Olaf Scholz and the SPD remain in first place in the survey results, will he enter into a coalition with the Greens and the Left or will another government be formed? Now he has positioned himself – with a surprising outcome.

The CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet never tires of asking Olaf Scholz about a possible coalition with the left. So far, the SPD candidate for chancellor has not wanted to rule out this option. This is still the case, but he apparently prefers a different coalition, as his answer in an Instagram short film shows.

In a challenge popular on the social networks TikTok and Instagram, terms are displayed in the video on the left and right edge of the screen. The SPD’s candidate for chancellor must now decide on one of the two terms and walk out of the picture on the respective page. At first it is relatively unspectacular: Scholz opted for the option of climate protection through “investments” instead of “bans” and for the way to work with “e-cars” instead of “public transport”.

Federal election 2021: Scholz prefers another “grand coalition”

His “answer” to the question of his preferred government coalition is more interesting: He is offered the now established GroKo from SPD and CDU / CSU (once stood for “Grand Coalition”, but now only scratches 40 percent + X) and as the second option is the coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the Left called the R2G. Scholz looks at the two options, does not hesitate and moves resolutely in the direction of the “grand coalition”.

Federal election 2021: red-red-green or new GroKo? Scholz indicates a decision

According to the current status, it is questionable whether there will really be a new edition of the GroKo: SPD and Union together come to 45 percent – that would be too little for a majority in the Bundestag. The video was published on the wdr account “klima.neutral”.
