In his initiative, Chega also believes that the video, which is being circulated on social media, has the “clear purpose of tarnishing the image of the PSP.”

The Chega parliamentary group is also asking for data on how many police officers “were seriously injured in the line of duty and how many ultimately died” over the past five years.

Chega also presented to the Assembly of the Republic praise for “the countless and invaluable services rendered by the police security forces, especially the agents involved in the arrest of a man on August 13 in Bairro Alto, for their courage and intelligence. the public service they have shown.”

In an initiative to which Lusa had access, Chega believes that “despite the obvious danger, these agents, in good faith, acted to protect the citizens and proceeded to detain the person in question, using force that apparently could not be avoided” .

But they point out that the two policemen “acted within the bounds of prudence and legal criteria of necessity and proportionality,” showing “how the police force should act in these circumstances.”

On Monday, the PSP announced the opening of an investigation into the incident involving the two police officers who “ensure the use of force” in the arrest of a citizen, on Saturday in Lisbon, and on the same day, the Minister of Administration of the Interior ordered the General Inspectorate of Internal Affairs (IGAI) to open an investigation “to establishing the facts” related to this incident.

The Lisbon Metropolitan Command said in a statement that the patrol was informed of the man’s “aggressive behavior” towards people circulating in Bairro Alto.

According to the note, the suspect had an “aggressive attitude towards the police” and refused to identify himself. However, the man was informed that he was going to be taken to the police station, after which, according to PSP, he became “more aggressive”, refusing to accompany the police.

The citizen will attempt to escape and prevent the police by “using the irons with the intention of attacking them”.

“The police used force, including with the use of a police baton, and, already tied up, took the suspect to the police station, where he was identified, having left this unit at 22:00,” the note says.
