Bank bailout: Banks demand 2.3 billion euros from the state

The German bank bailout fund is to be dissolved. The banks would like to have the money back. A former Green MP wants to prevent that.

The lifting platform in the background was not intended. But Gerhard Schick is undeterred. The former member of the Bundestag stood in front of the Ministry of Finance this Tuesday morning with a handful of fellow campaigners. They wear blue vests, have posters with them, one has a Christian Lindner mask strapped to his face.

The fact that posters are being placed behind them on the lifting platform for the ministry’s “Open Day” disturbs the beautiful photo optics of the protest action – but it underlines Schick’s message. “There’s always an open day for bank bosses in the Ministry of Finance,” he says. “That is the reason for our action today.”

Who gets the 2.3 billion?
