The damage caused by Cum-Ex is around 38 billion euros in Germany alone. It’s the biggest tax scandal in history. In the middle, the name Olaf Scholz keeps popping up. He denies involvement, but now there are new clues.
“The Hamburg private bank Warburg has stolen 170 million euros over the years. […] They were caught and they wanted to get the money back, but they didn’t want to pay it back. Then they came up with the idea of making appointments with Olaf Scholz. That also happened.” That’s what long-time cum-ex connoisseur and journalist Oliver Schröm says in the 324th edition of the podcast “today important”. So far, today’s Chancellor and then Mayor of Hamburg has denied any involvement. But exclusive information from Schröm and his colleagues from star“Manager Magazin” and NDR show: Scholz is said to have made contradictory statements behind the scenes.
The city of Hamburg suddenly gave up – without justification
To this day there is no plausible explanation as to why the Hamburg administration suddenly did not want the money back. Was it due to the visits by private bank shareholder Christian Olearius to Hamburg City Hall? The fact that the meetings between Olearius and Scholz are documented is only thanks to the banker’s diaries, which have since been confiscated by the police. Investigative journalist Oliver Schröm received early indications that the current Chancellor could play a role in the affair, he reports on “Today Important”: “In November 2019 I got a call from a long-time informant from the cum-ex scene and he told me: Olaf Scholz is involved in the Cum-Ex scandal.” At that time, Schröm had been researching Cum-Ex for years and was surprised: “I couldn’t imagine that Scholz had anything to do with the scandal.”
Mails and calendar entries were suddenly gone
Officially, Scholz can’t remember any meeting, actually nothing at all. But not only Olaf Scholz has big memory gaps. There are also large gaps in the files, data and computers of the people concerned, according to Oliver Schröm: “It’s an insane scandal, systematic deletions have obviously taken place here, despite ongoing investigations, despite the investigative committee. This is actually the deliberate destruction of Evidence. I find that more than questionable and, to be honest, it shakes me,” Schröm stated in the “today important” interview.
This Friday, Olaf Scholz has to answer questions before the committee of inquiry. The Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office has so far seen no misconduct on the part of the Federal Chancellor.
