Portugal’s economy grew by 6.9% between April and June compared to the same period last year, the second-highest growth among member states. The eurozone rose 3.9%, according to preliminary data released on Wednesday by Eurostat.
The published data show that, on an annualized basis, the Portuguese economy posted the second-highest growth among the 21 member states for which data are available, surpassed only by Slovenia at 8.3% after it led the largest growth in gross domestic income. Product (GDP) compared to the first quarter of 2021 (11.9%).
Compared to the first quarter of 2022, Portugal was one of four member states that recorded a decline in GDP, albeit a slight one, of 0.2%.
Data from the official statistics office of the European Union (EU) show that on an annualized basis since the second quarter of 2021, GDP grew by 3.9% in the single currency and by 4% in the EU as a whole, after the first quarter it grew by 5.4% and 5 .5% respectively.
Eurostat also includes employment data in the bulletin, but without providing specific data for Member States, disclosing that this figure grew by 2.4% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU year on year, slightly below the recorded growth. . in the first quarter (2.9% and 2.8% respectively).
