An instructor and student in their 30s died Friday afternoon while paragliding.
“They flew and, for reasons unknown to us, fell to the ground next to agricultural land, at the level of a slope, about 250 meters above sea level,” said a source from the Ribeira Brava and Ponta do São Volunteer Fire Brigade.
A mountain rescue team of Ribeira Brava firefighters was on site, trying to get to the bodies of the dead.
The firemen’s source also added that, according to information obtained at the scene, two practitioners are Portuguese, one of whom was a native of Madeira who lived on the mainland and was on holiday in Madeira, and is “about 30 years old.”
The instructor “was a few years older,” the same source said, without specifying his age.
“The bodies have already been removed and sent to Funchal to the Legal Institute of Medicine,” he added.
