Cum-Ex: Olaf Scholz overbearing and arrogant in the committee of inquiry

New revelations have raised pressing questions about Olaf Scholz’s role in the cum-ex scandal. But the chancellor continued to refuse to answer. star-Author Oliver Schröm experienced an overbearing head of government in the investigative committee of the Hamburg Parliament.

Mr. Schröm, you followed the Chancellor’s appearance in the Cum-Ex investigative committee. How did Olaf Scholz present himself there?
“Presumptuous, arrogant, contemptuous of MPs and Parliament. He also attacked them at times and made fun of them. And – at some point I stopped keeping my tally: He can’t remember anything, he can’t remember anything, he can’t remember anything… again and again.

A committee member asked how he could remember that it no influence of politics when he couldn’t remember anything else. How did Scholz react to this?
He just spat at the deputy. The accusation remained in the room.

Of the star but recently revealed that there is a log that Scholz could very well remember. Has he commented on this?
He simply countered this question with the words: “Then show me the minutes.” And he grinned at that, because he knows full well that the protocol is in the secret service of the Bundestag and may not be presented to the committee. That can only change when the members of the Bundestag finally revise the protocol. When that happens, it will become obvious that Scholz lied.

Olaf Scholz – “a person who doesn’t care about others runs our country”

Scholz simply refused any explanation during the questioning. Doesn’t he have to fear that this attitude will harm him?
Scholz has something autistic, he doesn’t have to and doesn’t want to be loved at all. All his life as a politician he actually only received slaps in the face. He was elected to the SPD federal executive committee with the worst result. He became general secretary with the worst result. He became Chancellor with the worst result. And he’s even been punished by his own party for not wanting him as party leader, and yet he carries on. Anyone else would have thrown it down, would have said, “Ok, the majority don’t want me.” But he doesn’t care. Instead, he takes the position that if 25 percent is enough to become chancellor, then so be it. Point. He ultimately doesn’t care what people think or feel about him, and that’s actually a shattering realization. A person who doesn’t care about others runs our country.

Has the committee made any progress at all?
No, but there was nothing to be expected in the matter. It was clear that Scholz star– Counters revelations because he knows full well that this is a dangerous moment, that there is a paper that documents that he at least spoke an untruth, if not outright lied. He simply relies on this paper not becoming public because it is classified as confidential. And he’s hoping it will stay that way.

Pretty deadlocked situation…
The crazy thing is: the lie has a “VS” stamp [VS steht für “Verschlusssache”, Anm. d. Red.]. The controversy is played out publicly, but the evidence must not be used. This is of course totally grotesque. Scholz is amused about that. That the protocol to the media is cut through is one thing. But in the political arena it has to be there, and it just isn’t there. MEPs are not allowed to quote from it. It was discussed whether this could be changed. But the committee chairman and his staff denied that – both are from the SPD.

So can Scholz get away with all of this?
Of course it sticks to him. What sticks in your mind is that there is a chancellor sitting here who is arrogant, overbearing and he’s kidding us. Let’s see how long he can live with it politically. At the same time, the investigations continue. The files that were confiscated there are still being evaluated. This is a mountain of documents that still have to be removed. It’s not all evening yet.
