Future team: These people should advise Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet

Around three weeks before the general election, the Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU), who is under massive pressure in view of the poor poll figures, presented an election campaign team. Laschet presented eight women and men on Friday with whom he wants to move into the final spurt of the election campaign. The team referred to by the Union as the “future team” includes the former Union parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz and Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär (CSU).

For him it was always important that the CDU be visible as a team, said Laschet. He has appointed eight experts who have new ideas for the future. They stand for what the Union wants to implement after the election on September 26th. These experts did “something other than simple experiments of an ideological nature”.

Schleswig-Holstein’s minister of culture, Karin Prien, is responsible for education policy, and the Saxon minister of culture, Barbara Klepsch, for the area of ”equal living conditions”.

CDU Vice Silvia Breher should take over the topic of family policy. Music manager Joe Chialo, who is applying for a direct mandate in the Bundestag in Berlin-Spandau, was presented as the team’s cultural representative. Union parliamentary group vice Andreas Jung (CDU) is responsible for climate protection policy, while terrorism expert Peter Neumann from King’s College in London is responsible for internal and external security.

Union shortly before the federal election in the polls

The Union has been in a polling low for weeks, this also applies in particular to Laschet himself. In polls, he is well behind the SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz. Against this background, there had been discussions in the Union for weeks about getting back on the offensive with the presentation of a team around the candidate for chancellor.
