For months, filmmaker Guy Lagache was able to closely observe French President Emmanuel Macron as he managed the Ukraine crisis. His documentary “Macron – A President at War” is a unique contemporary document.
At the end of 2021, filmmaker Guy Lagache had an idea: French President Emmanuel Macron would hold the EU Council Presidency from January to June 2022. Lagache wanted to take this opportunity and accompany Macron on his European appointments. In this way he wanted to bring the abstract state structure closer to the viewer. He wanted to show the complex machinery of Europe, from the inside out, from the president’s perspective. Doubly interesting: How does Macron tick, how does the EU tick? So Lagache asked the Elysée Palace if they were willing to give him a look behind the scenes of the EU.
