According to the mayor, sixteen people were evacuated from a hotel and private home as a precaution due to a raging fire in Paradance, Mondim de Basto municipality.
“A total of 16 people have been taken to the municipal stadium and are being escorted by the social services of the municipality,” Bruno Ferreira, mayor of Mondim de Basto, told Lusa.
The mayor specified that two people with disabilities were evicted from a private house, while the remaining 14 were in a hotel, which is located next to the national road 304 (EN304), which connects the village of Mondim de Basto with Paradance.
The fire, which started at 4:00 p.m., is spreading “on two fronts”, burning in a pine forest and, according to the mayor, “the scenario is alarming.”
According to the website of the National Office of Emergency Management and Civil Protection (ANEPC), at 19:30, 75 operatives, 17 vehicles and seven aircraft were involved in extinguishing the fire.
There are also two municipal tracked vehicles on the site.
