Before meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Portuguese Foreign Minister (ME) João Gomes Cravinho stressed Portuguese “solidarity and cooperation” with Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion. The official spoke shortly after his arrival in Kyiv, as part of a visit to Ukraine, just on the day when the country celebrates independence.
“This is a day that marks the Independence Day of Ukraine, which has been subjected to a clear attempt to crush its independence. That is why it is important, and also because six months have passed since the unjustified and illegal invasion of Russia,” Gomes Cravinho said in a statement to the RTP.
The MNE assured that it would continue its “humanitarian, economic, political and financial support” to Portugal, ensuring that “this connection” would be maintained.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that “it is always a pleasure to receive friends on important days”, recalling that he met with Gomes Cravinho a year ago, at the Crimean summit.
