The Arsonist Rehabilitation Program (PRI), announced by the government in 2018, is still a pilot application in this area, the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) said.
“Currently, the program is used in the context of the execution of sentences and alternatives to imprisonment on an experimental basis,” the DGRSP response to Lusa said. Without providing information on the number of defendants and convicts currently covered by the program, the authority responsible for managing the penitentiary system noted that, for the time being, prisoners arrested for the crime of wildfire are excluded from this application.
According to information released in July by the Ministry of Justice, there are 29 convicts in a colony and a non-prison psychiatric institution and 23 suspended sentences in places of deprivation of liberty and non-prison psychiatric institutions, that is, 52 people.
