Ukraine’s independence celebrations, proclaimed on August 24, 1991, shortly before the formal collapse of the Soviet Union of which it was a part, are marked by restrictions and additional security measures across the country due to fears of new Russian attacks on Ukraine. a week of strong symbolism.

Over the past six months, the conflict in Ukraine has left traces of destruction in the country, led to an indefinite number of civilian casualties and prisoners of war, mobilized millions for military and humanitarian assistance, led to sanctions against Moscow and a number of changes in the global geostrategic scenario.

The UN has already confirmed the deaths of more than 5,500 civilians, but continues to warn that the number will be much higher.
