If Chancellor Scholz has his way, the legalization of cannabis in Germany should be completed fairly quickly. But he himself has never smoked a joint, he says.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz says he has never smoked a joint. He had to bring himself to agree that the planned legalization of cannabis was the right thing to do – “firstly because I’ve never smoked weed,” said the SPD politician at a public dialogue in Magdeburg.
In addition, he does not believe that drug use has no consequences for health. There are people “who smoked their brains and suffered severe psychological damage because they overdid it”. The vast majority, however, would have a “reasonably civilized handling” of cannabis. That’s why it should now be legalized – “and it should go pretty quickly”.
