The PKP criticizes Gorbachev in the text without a single word of regret over the death of the former Soviet leader

The PKP issued a sharply critical note this Wednesday against former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, blaming him for restoring capitalism in Russia, without a single word of regret over his death on Tuesday.

“Gorbachev was one of the main culprits in the destruction of the Soviet Union and the restoration of capitalism in Russia when the improvement of socialism was required,” reads the beginning of the brief communiqué, consisting of just one paragraph and 123 words.

For the communists, Gorbachev’s intervention “helped set the stage for imperialism’s counter-offensive to regain ground lost throughout the 20th century and establish its hegemony on a global level, with serious consequences for workers’ rights.” sovereignty of peoples, security in Europe and peace throughout the world.

Proof of this idea is, according to the PKP, “the wars in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine and others.”

“The recognition and appreciation given to him by US, EU and NATO officials speaks for themselves,” concludes the PKP statement.

Mikhail Gorbachev died on Tuesday at the age of 91, Russian news agencies TASS, RIA Novosti and Interfax reported, citing the Central Clinical Hospital.

Gorbachev’s office reported that the former head of state was being treated in a hospital, but so far no details have been released.

As the last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev fought unsuccessfully to save the fragile empire, but made extraordinary reforms that ended the Cold War.

The former general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) initiated a series of changes between 1985 and 1991 that led to the collapse of the authoritarian Soviet state, the liberation of Eastern European peoples from Russian rule, and the end of a decade of nuclear confrontation between East and West.

TASS reports that the ex-head of state will be buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, next to his wife.
