In an interview, economist Sebastian Dullien explains which factors are likely to lead to a recession and how the federal government could mitigate them.
Mr. Dullien, will we get through the winter well?
That’s not decided yet. We are headed for a recession. How strong it will depend, among other things, on what measures the federal government takes.
So the new relief package is not enough?
Some things are still vaguely formulated, so I can’t say that clearly. This is particularly noticeable when it comes to gas prices: a commission of experts is to consider how the price for private households can be dampened. It’s such a formulation that you don’t even know what’s coming. The gas price has an enormous impact on the national economy.
