Pedro Nuno Santos responds to criticism and accuses PSD of being ‘nervous’

Infrastructure and Housing Minister Pedro Nuno Santos responded to criticism from the Social Democrats on Tuesday, saying some parties have “more credibility than others” given that the SDP is “nervous”.

“The parties are not the same, the criticism is not the same, and some are more credible than others,” Pedro Nuno Santos said during a joint press conference on a detailed family income support package to mitigate the effects of inflation. , at the Ministry of Finance in Lisbon, when asked about criticism of the measures by the opposition.

For the ruler, the SDP is “nervous” and “doesn’t want to be left behind” by the government, which causes him to “lose sight of the history” of the party leadership.

“If the PKP and the Left Bloc are relevant to European commitments and differ from our views and the views of the PSD on the impact of national economic policy in terms of debt and deficit, it makes it easier to understand their criticism, starting from where they leave,” said Pedro Nuno Santos.

On the other hand, he says, “it’s already harder to understand the starting point of the SDP’s critique if they haven’t re-examined their relationship with European commitments in terms of public debt and budget deficits.”

“In recent weeks, we have witnessed inconsistency, which further reduces the credibility of criticism,” the minister said.

“They started with a billion dollar package [de euros], they realized that maybe it wasn’t enough for a package of 1,500 million, now they say that they didn’t make it. It obviously doesn’t lend credibility to the criticism either,” he stressed.

In addition to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Ministers of Finance Fernando Medina, Ministers of Environment and Climate Duarte Cordeiro and Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security Ana Méndez Godinho took part in this press conference in Lisbon.
