18-year-old Anna Klaedtke would like her generation to be taken more seriously by politics. How you can better motivate young people politically and what they are missing in the current election campaign, she told in the “Unmute Now” campaign in Belitz.
The climate is going down the drain. Corona has closed the universities. And we all no longer get a pension anyway. Shortly before the general election, many young people feel they have been left alone by politics. Their perspectives and interests hardly take place in the election campaign. The “” campaign by the non-profit organization “” aims to make them heard.
The “Unmute Now” team has been traveling across Germany in a bus since August 23, 2021. Her goal: to get into conversation with young people and to make their voices visible. The team meets 18-year-old Anna Klaedtke in Belitz. She would like young people to be taken more seriously by politics – and so far she has missed the right arguments in the election campaign.
Are you going to vote on September 26th?
Anna Klaedtke: I will definitely vote because this is my chance to help shape my future.
What is the most important topic for you when choosing?
Climate protection is at the top of my list.
Are your interests represented by the established parties?
Several parties are aiming for Germany to become climate neutral by 2045. But especially the Left and the Greens have good climate protection measures in their election manifestos.
How do you perceive the election campaign so far?
For the election campaign, I would have wished for more seriousness, political discussions and arguments in general – and less banter.
What does the new federal government have to do first?
Definitely that CO-2 emissions will be drastically reduced.
Many young people feel neglected by politics. What do you think is that?
Many teenagers get the feeling that they are not important enough to be seriously involved. Many of our demands or appeals are simply ignored or ignored.
What would have to change so that more young people get involved in politics?
I think that first the community of young people should be promoted again and that in the course of this political exchange, motivation and inspiration can take place together.
Are you afraid or are you hoping for the future?
I am not afraid of the future, but of the people who want to be at the top of power at all costs.
What do you wish for the future?
I would like the school system to change. Current topics must be given more space in the curriculum and discussed.
What would you like to say to the next Federal Chancellor?
Please do not forget that behind every number there is an individual with wishes and dreams.
