The Left Bloc (BE) wants to stop the sale of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) building in Aveiro to private individuals and is defending its public use, possibly in conjunction with municipal services, a party source said on Wednesday.
BE said in a statement that “at a time when the state bank has put the building up for sale for 3.4 million euros”, it intends to submit a proposal to the municipal assembly of Aveiro to defend “a public solution for the CGD building”. .Aveiro”.
With this initiative, Bloco de Esquerda also intends to counteract the intention of the Chamber of Aveiro to deactivate the current Homem Cristo high school, the first building built in the country for a high school in the 19th century.
The municipality has already prepared for the construction of new premises for the Homem Cristo school in exchange for the opportunity to occupy the premises with its services, located in the Republic Square, next to the city hall.
In the proposal “Public solution for the Caixa Geral de Depósitos building in Aveiro”, which will be presented to the Municipal Assembly, “The block proposes an alternative using the CGD building to house public services, namely municipal ones.”
The BE petition argues that “the building of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, located at Rua do Clube dos Galitos, Aveiro, should not be sold” and that “a public decision should be sought from the government and the board of directors of Caixa Geral de Depósitos.” for the building in question, whether for the housing of municipal services or other public services or of public interest.”
“Public real estate assets, especially in areas with high real estate demand, need to be preserved and managed to balance the practice of real estate speculation,” concludes BE.
