Liz Truss proclaimed a “new era” with the succession of King Carlos III: “Today the crown passes – as it has done for over a thousand years – to our new monarch, our new head of state: His Majesty King Charles III.”
“And while we cry, we must unite as a people to support him. To help him bear the enormous responsibility he now bears for all of us,” he added.
“We offer you our loyalty and devotion, as your mother dedicated so much to so many and for so long. And with the departure of the second Elizabethan era, we are opening a new era in the magnificent history of our great Majesty would wish, – uttering the words “God save the king,” Liz Truss finished.
Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch who has held the throne of the United Kingdom for 70 years, died this Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, surrounded by her family.
The announcement of the death of the monarch was made by Buckingham Palace. “The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral,” the statement said.
