After the withdrawal of the western states from Afghanistan, the Taliban are now taking over the embassies. They find a lot of leftovers that they don’t like.
The western states are gone – the Taliban are here. Afghanistan has been under the control of radical Islamists for several weeks. With the withdrawal of the US and its allies, several embassies in the Afghan capital Kabul are empty. More precisely, they were empty. Because they are now being used again. Not from the embassy staff, however.
For example, the Taliban have moved into the joint building of the Norwegian and Danish embassies, like the Norwegian newspaper “Aftenposten” reported. 56 Taliban members are said to have moved there. Since this embassy – like many others – had to be evacuated quickly, much was left in the rooms of the building.
Movies and music “blasphemisch”
According to the newspaper, the Taliban have been collecting garbage bags containing what they believe to be junk. Among them: a CD with Norwegian Christmas carols and a DVD with the children’s film “Kurt becomes cruel” (“Kurt becomes cruel”). Photos also show a team member testing a rowing machine and Taliban people holding wooden skis.
“This area still belongs to their land. You get it back. We’re just watching”said Amir Mohammed Mohammed, the leader of the group, according to the Norwegian broadcaster NRK. It remains to be seen whether this will actually happen. Embassies and the surrounding area are the sovereign territory of the respective country.
They do not seem to like everything that the Taliban found in the embassy building. A photo shows a Taliban member watching a DVD of “Kurt becomes cruel” destroyed with his hands. The film is one “blasphemous machination”.
The film is about forklift driver Kurt, who realizes that society generally does not respect forklift drivers very much. Kurt quits his job and wants to become a doctor and be rich. In the end he even wants to become prime minister. But he doesn’t have much success on any of his projects, and over time Kurt becomes vicious – well “cruel”.
