An official appeal from Saint Petersburg calls on the State Duma to charge Vladimir Putin with high treason and remove him from office. The action is now triggering a chain reaction: more and more municipal politicians are demanding the resignation of the president.
Seven MPs from Saint Petersburg cause a sensation. They managed to push through an official appeal to the State Duma in a municipal council, in which they demanded Vladimir Putin’s dismissal – on charges of high treason. Last Wednesday, the administration of the city decided to send an appeal to the lower house of the Russian parliament. Seven of the ten lawmakers present voted in favour. The minimum quorum was thus reached and a decision was made by a government agency. With legal validity, as Nikita Yuferev, one of the initiators, in conversation with the star stressed.
In a country frozen in fear and where censorship is pervasive, the process is unprecedented. And it’s drawing circles: On Monday, 18 other local MPs from Moscow and Saint Petersburg joined the call for Vladimir Putin’s resignation.
“Vladimir Putin’s actions harm the future of Russia”
“We, local deputies of Russia, believe that President Vladimir Putin’s actions harm the future of Russia and its citizens. We demand Vladimir Putin’s resignation from the presidency!” the statement said.
“But the city’s government has suffered moral damage”
Meanwhile, the regime is working to bring the supporters of the Saint Petersburg appeal to justice. “The case can now take a rapid course. The relevant documents were already received by the court last Friday, the day on which we were summoned to the police,” reported the non-party MP Juferev in an interview with the star. “Everyone thinks what we did was absolutely brazen, which I don’t agree with, because we acted in accordance with all laws. But the city government suffered moral damage because it doesn’t have the situation in the city under control. Now they will Rulers try to make amends by punishing someone.”
Investigations against five MPs
Five of the MPs who voted to make the appeal are under investigation for allegedly “discrediting the Russian armed forces”. “After being summoned to the police, I was asked if I regret that we made this decision,” commented the second initiator of the campaign, Dmitry Paljuga. “I’m glad we met you and I’m proud of every MP! I get a lot of messages from strangers with words of support. We are many!”
“Everyone is fed up with Putin. Putin is obstructing everyone – he has to go!” Yuferev commented on the development star. “It is essential to understand that Putin is the only threat to Russia’s existence. Not NATO, not Ukraine – but Putin.”
