Latin America: Arrests after attack on Argentina’s vice president

Horror in Argentina: A man points a gun at the influential Vice President Kirchner and pulls the trigger – but no shot is fired. There have since been several arrests.

After the failed attack on Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner, the police arrested another suspect. The woman was arrested in the town of San Miguel near the capital Buenos Aires, the newspaper “La Nación” reported, citing legal circles.

The suspect is therefore a confidante of the suspected assassin’s already arrested girlfriend. Mobile phones and electronic devices were also seized during the raid at three different locations.

At the beginning of September, a man in front of Kirchner’s apartment in Buenos Aires pointed a pistol at the ex-president (2007-2015) and pulled the trigger at least once. However, no shot was fired. He was then struck down by Kirchner’s supporters and arrested by the police. He is accused of attempted murder.

Kirchner is as popular as it is controversial in Argentina. In a corruption trial, the public prosecutor had recently demanded twelve years in prison for Kirchner. As a result, her followers camped for days in front of Kirchner’s apartment in the elegant Recoleta district. There were repeated clashes with neighbors and the police.
