The AfD in Lower Saxony distributes gummy bears in the shape of the red AfD arrow – which somehow looks like a penis. Twitter is mocked – and the demand for the sweets is said to have increased since then.
An election giveaway from the AfD in Lower Saxony caused ridicule on the Internet: while the red wine gum was probably intended to remind of the arrow in the AfD logo, some people are more reminded of a penis. A photo of the candy received more than 30,000 likes on Twitter in one day.
The Lower Saxony AfD state chairman Frank Rinck told the German Press Agency on Thursday that the “media enthusiasm” about the topic says more about the journalists than about the gummy bears. “Everyone sees in them what they want to see. We don’t draw any conclusions,” said Rinck. The demand for the gummy bears has “increased immensely” since the reporting.
In the state elections on October 9, the AfD wants to regain its parliamentary group status. She lost it in 2020 because three of the nine members had fallen below the minimum size after they left. In surveys, the AfD was recently at seven to eight percent.
