Federal Minister of Finance: Lindner holds out the prospect of cannabis legalization for 2023

Cannabis will be legal in Germany next year. At least that’s what Finance Minister Christian Lindner wants. However, statements by the Federal Drug Commissioner from July weaken this forecast.

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) has announced cannabis legalization for the coming year.

At an FDP event in the state election campaign in Lower Saxony on Friday, Lindner told demonstrators in Oldenburg who were holding up signs with hemp leaves and the words “A bag with Christian Lindner” that they could look forward to legalization coming next year.

However, the federal drug commissioner Burkhard Blienert said in July that it was unlikely that the law on cannabis legalization would come into force before 2024. The traffic light coalition will present a draft for this at the end of this year or early next year. But there are still many questions to be clarified, the Federal Drug Commissioner emphasized in July.
