After a paint attack on the office of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) in Berlin-Mitte, state security is investigating. This was announced by a police spokeswoman on Sunday on request. A complaint was filed for property damage, said DIG President Volker Beck. “This color attack on our office is an unacceptable attack on us and the German-Israeli friendship.”
Unknown persons have daubed the words “40 years of massacre” on the glass door of the company’s office, sprayed the doorbell and made the logo panel unrecognizable. The perpetrators refer to an event 40 years ago, explained Beck. In September 1982, Christian Lebanese militiamen – within sight of Israeli checkpoints – committed the massacre of Sabra and Shatila in a Palestinian refugee camp. The event does not justify the action, emphasized Beck. “Anyone who carries out such color attacks wants to intimidate, unsettle and muzzle. But we, the German-Israeli Society, don’t let ourselves be impressed,” said the DIG President, who sat in the Bundestag for the Greens until 2017.
