US President Joe Biden has declared the corona pandemic over. “The pandemic is over, but we still have a problem with Covid,” said Biden in a TV interview broadcast on Sunday evening (local time). The interview was recorded on Thursday – including when Biden visited the auto show in Detroit, Michigan. “As you can see, no one is wearing a mask here. Everyone seems to be in pretty good shape, so I think the situation is changing and I think this is a perfect example of that,” the US President said.
The US President tested positive for Corona in July and was treated with the Covid drug Paxlovid. At the end of August, his wife Jill contracted the virus and was also treated with the drug. In the USA, around 390 people die every day on a seven-day average as a result of Covid 19 disease. US authorities recently approved two corona vaccines adapted to the omicron variant. The two preparations are so-called bivalent mRNA vaccines from the companies Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna.
Is Corona over in Germany too?
In Germany, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann recently launched a new infection protection law, which has now been passed by the Bundesrat. According to this, the countries should be able to react flexibly to the development of the pandemic and, depending on the situation, be able to impose mask and/or test obligations. In view of the current number of cases, leading experts are now speaking out against corona measures. Virologist Hendrik Streek criticized the new infection protection law on the show star TV am Sonntag as “not logical”. Even the director of virology at the Berlin Charité, sometimes without the mask.
