Which party do the Germans trust in economic matters? According to a survey by the ZDF Politbarometer, the answer is quite clear.
Economic competence and a great focus on the German economy have always been part of the party identity of the CDU and CSU. About 30 percent of Germans would also allow the Union to deal competently with economic issues, as the ZDF Politbarometer shows. For around 23 percent of those surveyed, the SPD cuts a fine figure in economic matters.

The survey participants see less expertise in the FDP and the Greens. Although the free market economy is the core content of the Liberals, only about seven percent of the respondents would agree that the party shows competence in this area. The Greens are rated as knowledgeable by only four percent. In the party around Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock, efforts to slow down climate change are seen as contrary to positive economic development. A good 16 percent of those surveyed were particularly pessimistic – they deny all political parties economic literacy.
