In April, police officers in Baden-Württemberg were shot by a “Reich citizen” – two were injured. The man later described the officers as “good guys” who were fighting on the “wrong side”.
A second police officer was injured when a “Reich citizen” attacked SEK officials in Boxberg (Main-Tauber district) in April. According to a decision by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) on the investigation, the man shot “several dozen times from five different firing positions” at 14 police officers using a fully automatic rifle. Two officers were injured.
Originally, after the escalated operation in the town between Heilbronn and Würzburg, there was always talk of a police officer who was shot. The officers of the special task force went out on April 20 to look for an illegal weapon in the then 54-year-old man when he opened fire. Later they found walk-in armories, imperial flags and masses of ammunition in the house. The Attorney General took over the investigation because of the “special importance” of the case.
According to the BGH decision of September 6, the investigators accuse the man of attempted murder in five cases, among other things. The injured were “deliberately selected as representatives of the state” and attacked.
Man blames police officers for incident
After his arrest, the man said that the police officers themselves were to blame for the fact that he had shot – they had entered his property. He sees that they are “good guys”, but unfortunately they are “fighting on the wrong side”.
The 3rd Criminal Division of the Federal Court of Justice dealt with the case because the accused wanted the defense counsel he had chosen to be appointed as the second public defender. That was rejected.
So-called Reich citizens deny the legitimacy of the Basic Law and the authorities. They do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany as a state. Instead, they claim that the German Empire continues to this day. For example, they refuse to comply with official notices, pay taxes or fines.
