At the largest radical left demonstration in Leipzig for years, riots broke out on Saturday. Several bank buildings were pelted with stones during the elevator. A black block inside the demo had carried a banner with a threat against the head of the Police Terrorism and Extremism Defense Center (PTAZ). “Soon it will be out of your dream, then you will be lying in the trunk” read the fabric banner behind the name of the PTAZ boss. This was interpreted as an allusion to the RAF murder of employer president Hanns-Martin Schleyer. He was found shot dead in the trunk of a car in 1977.
After the official end, hooded men lit a large barricade and another fire in the street in the Connewitz district. Several thousand people took part in the demo with the motto “We are all LinX”. It had been mobilized nationwide.
