Vienna postpones operations: are further corona measures coming?

In any case, the number of infected people in the hospitals is increasing. In the health network, i.e. the city hospital, 65 intensive care beds are occupied. There have never been so many in the past few weeks. The first operations have already been postponed and the religious hospitals have also been reintegrated into the pandemic management.

According to the health association, 167 standard Covid beds are occupied, four more than at the weekend. 17 people are also cared for with post-Covid symptoms. The figures do not yet come close to the highs of the past few months, and the capacities are not yet exhausted either. A total of 150 intensive care beds are available for those affected – including those for high-flow oxygen therapy, some of which are also in normal wards.

“Situation not yet dramatic”

But the increase is already having an impact: in the hospitals, predictable operations are already being partially postponed. This is done after consultation with patients, as an APA spokesman explained on Monday. The situation is not yet dramatic, as is emphasized. It is by no means the case that urgent operations would have to be postponed in large numbers. However, according to the current step-by-step plan, the religious and private hospitals were also included again. These opened Covid stations again.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, it will be decided which corona measures will apply in Vienna in the future. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SP) bert again with a team of experts. It is possible that he will then announce further tightening.

Currently there are already measures that go beyond the federal ordinance. In Vienna, for example, a mask is mandatory in all shops, but for vaccinated and convalescent people away from everyday shops – there you generally need FFP2 – a simple mouth and nose protection. In addition, PCR tests are now only valid for 48 hours and not 72 hours in Vienna.
