Russia: Kremlin opponent Navalny criticizes fraudulent parliamentary elections

The Kremlin party United Russia had already celebrated victory in the parliamentary elections on election evening, observers doubt the official result. Now Alexei Navalny speaks up.

The Kremlin opponent Alexej Navalny, imprisoned in the penal camp, has criticized a fraudulent parliamentary election in Russia.

There is clear evidence for Moscow, for example, that the vote initially went out in favor of the opposition and then changed with the later publication of information from the online vote in the interests of the Kremlin party United Russia, according to a statement by Navalny published on Instagram on Tuesday. The result was changed in the “most primitive way” and thus stolen from the voters.

The election commission had once again awarded the victory to the United Russia party supported by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. The party suffered slight losses, but again received an absolute majority in the State Duma. The election ended on Sunday after three days.

Navalny himself described the course of the protest election against United Russia as a success. With the “smart voting” procedure, it was possible to support candidates from other parties. In the end, however, there is now a “falsified result on the tableau” because the power apparatus is in possession of the scoreboard.

Navalny praised the fact that the observers in the polling stations had fought for the votes and against the fraud. At the same time, he let it be known that major protests on the street against the “stolen” election were unlikely. «Intimidation and repression have taken the will of many; people are just afraid to take to the streets, ”he continued.
