Live broadcast: Truss against iceberg lettuce: lettuce lasted longer

A head of lettuce has made it to fame in the UK: Daily Star magazine launched a contest between the lettuce and Liz Truss over how long it lasted. Now the winner has been chosen.

Outgoing Prime Minister Liz Truss not only lost her position, but also a competition to a head of lettuce. The riot newspaper “Daily Star” chose the salad on Thursday afternoon as the winner of its own contest, which the British tabloid had announced last Friday.

In its issue at the time, the editors asked the question, “Can Liz Truss last longer than this salad?” in view of the head of government who had come under enormous pressure. At the same time, the “Daily Star” started a live broadcast on YouTube, showing a photo of the Prime Minister next to a head of lettuce with eyes glued on. The magazine “Economist” had previously assumed that Truss had the shelf life of a salad.

On Thursday, a relatively fresh-looking salad next to two Union Jack flags and a bottle of champagne could be seen in the live broadcast – Truss, on the other hand, was no longer there. “Salad will address the nation at 6 p.m.,” read the broadcast.
