Survey: Majority for continued operation of nuclear power plants after April 2023

According to Chancellor Scholz, the three remaining nuclear power plants in Germany will continue to operate until mid-April 2023. A majority of the population is in favor of an even longer term.

A majority of people in Germany are in favor of continuing to operate the three nuclear power plants that are still active after April 2023.

In the published ZDF “Politbarometer”, 55 percent of those questioned spoke out in favor of using the three nuclear power plants longer than planned by the federal government because of the energy crisis.

After days of dispute between the FDP and the Greens, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) used his directive authority on Monday and instructed the responsible ministers to make legislative proposals so that the Isar 2, Neckarwestheim 2 and Emsland nuclear power plants can continue to operate beyond the end of the year until April 15, 2023 be able. Of the 1,400 respondents, 36 percent were in favor of this variant in the survey.

Actually, the three nuclear power plants should have gone off the grid on December 31 of this year. According to the survey, eight percent are in favor of shutting down the nuclear power plants at the end of the year as planned.
