Watch the video: Facility manager describes fire in near Wismar.

After the fire in accommodation for refugees in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser announced that she would crack down if the suspicion of arson was confirmed. “And then we have to check who is responsible for it? And the state’s answer is then a very tough one. We will take action with all the means of the rule of law. The crime must be prosecuted, there must be a quick indictment and then one condemnation.” The head of the facility, in which mainly people from Ukraine were accommodated, Andrei Bondarchuk, described the spread of the flames on Thursday night. “And then suddenly, a few minutes later, you saw a thick cloud of smoke five meters up. And then, after a few moments, almost the whole house was on fire.” And the District Administrator of Northwest Mecklenburg, Tino Schomann from the CDU, said that the mood of the local population with regard to the refugees was very positive. “When we started, the population was here, bringing toys and clothes. It was more like saying: stop a minute, we have enough to stop them now. So it was until the end, including the clubs, the institutions , that was really great. And we didn’t feel anything of what the sign might say here, what was intended. We can rule that out here, I can completely rule it out for the region, there were no indications of it.” After the fire, in which no one was injured, the police quickly assumed it was arson, suspecting a political background. A few days earlier, swastika graffiti had been discovered on the building. An investigative team led by the state security police is to investigate the incident.
