In the event of loss of earnings due to the ordered corona quarantine, most non-vaccinated persons in Germany should no longer receive compensation from November 1st at the latest. The majority of the health ministers from the federal government and the German federal states agreed on this on Wednesday in a resolution that was submitted to the German press agency. It only affects people for whom there is a vaccination recommendation and who can also be vaccinated.
In the deliberations of the ministers, it was about a Germany-wide uniform line. The first federal states had already decided for themselves that non-vaccinated people should soon no longer be entitled to compensation. The German Federal Protection against Infection Act already provides for this if segregation could have been avoided by taking a recommended vaccination. Since there is now enough vaccine available, this should now be implemented. The states themselves regulate the details.
In principle, employees in Germany who have to stay at home because of a quarantine order are entitled to the full amount of wages from the state for the first six weeks, and 67 percent from the seventh week. Employees do not have to worry about anything and continue to receive their money directly from the employer, who has to have it reimbursed by the responsible authorities. Only from the seventh week onwards do employees have to apply for compensation themselves.
This regulation should no longer apply from November 1 at the latest to non-vaccinated people for whom a vaccination recommendation is available if they have to be in quarantine as contact persons for corona infected people or as travelers returning from a risk area abroad and are not allowed to work. Quarantine orders generally do not apply to those who have been completely vaccinated.
Austria: Requirement for a separation notice
In Austria, people who are placed under quarantine are currently generally entitled to compensation because of the resulting loss of earnings. According to the Chamber of Commerce, a separate decision is a prerequisite for continued payment of wages by the employer. Compensation can be requested from the responsible district administration within three months from the lifting of the quarantine. The vaccination status does not matter.
The German Minister of Health Jens Spahn defended the end of the financial compensation for unvaccinated people in Germany. “It’s not about pressure, by the way, but about fairness towards the vaccinated. Why should others pay for someone deciding not to be vaccinated?” Said the CDU politician before the ZDF consultations.
The chairman of the state health ministers, Klaus Holetschek (CSU) from Bavaria, told the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday): “The nationwide law clearly stipulates: Anyone who deliberately does not get vaccinated even though there are no medical obstacles and who could have avoided a quarantine through the vaccination, is not entitled to compensation for loss of earnings in the event of a quarantine. ” Those who become ill themselves – which, by the way, is also possible with vaccination in some cases – of course continue to receive their money from their employer, as with any other illness.
