Defense: Estonia records another airspace violation by Russia

According to Tallinn, for the sixth time this year, a Russian aircraft has entered the airspace without permission. Moscow denies this. Now Tallinn has called in the ambassador.

Estonia has again recorded a violation of its airspace by a Russian aircraft. A Beriew A-50 machine had unauthorized entry into the airspace of the Baltic EU and NATO country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tallinn summoned the Russian ambassador to Estonia and handed him a note because of the incident, the Estonian army said.

According to the information, it was the sixth airspace violation by Russia this year. “From Estonia’s point of view, this is a very regrettable and serious incident, and such a series of repeated violations is by no means acceptable,” said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Russia denied. According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, the Interfax agency said that the machine was in compliance with the international rules for the use of airspace. The borders of other states were not violated. An “objective control” could confirm that.

According to the army, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning near the Baltic Sea island of Vaindloo. The Russian aircraft had transmitted a flight plan, but had no electronic identification switched on. The pilots also had no radio contact with air traffic control during the airspace breach, which lasted less than a minute.
