The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) classified the incident as a cyber attack in connection with the federal election, the magazine reported. At the IT center of the federal government (ITZBund) it is reported as a “major incident”, ie a serious security incident.

Attack on the Federal Returning Officer’s website at the end of August

According to “Business Insider”, there was an attack on the Federal Returning Officer ‘s website only at the end of August. The site was accordingly bombarded with requests until it was overloaded. A spokesman for the Federal Returning Officer only reported about the incident at the time that the website was “only accessible to a limited extent for a few minutes (…) due to disruption”.
