49-euro ticket: the federal and state governments decide “Germany ticket”

Now it’s official: the 49-euro ticket for bus and train in Germany is to come. The federal and state governments have agreed on the offer.

The federal and state governments have decided: The 49-euro ticket for local public transport (ÖPNV) in Germany should come according to media information. According to the decision of the Conference of Prime Ministers, the offer should “as soon as possible” be implemented, the target is January 1, 2023.

The federal and state governments jointly finance the 49-euro ticket

The federal government had previously promised to provide the states with 1.5 billion euros to finance the ticket, and the states want to contribute the same amount. In addition, the federal government wants to make an additional one billion euros available annually for the expansion of public transport.

The offer is to be marketed under the name “Germany ticket”. About the agreement between the federal and state governments “mirror” first reported.

The transport ministers of the federal and state governments had already agreed on the flat rate for bus and train around two weeks ago – the financial contribution of the federal government was still open. According to the plans presented at the time, the 49-euro ticket should only be available digitally and as a monthly subscription. It entitles you to unlimited travel on local buses, trains and ferries nationwide, but not to the use of long-distance trains and buses.

The unofficial predecessor, the 9-euro ticket, was introduced in July for a limited period of three months to relieve citizens of the high fuel and energy prices. For nine euros a month, it enabled unlimited travel on public transport. It has been sold more than 50 million times, and season ticket subscribers received it automatically.
