He criticizes the way humanity deals with these extremes. Because heat waves like in summer are just symptoms that are dismissed as individual events of the climate crisis. They are often related. A drought, for example, also causes problems in agriculture, which in turn affect the food industry.
The representatives from around 200 countries must urgently find viable solutions for these effects of the climate crisis at the World Climate Conference this weekend. Researchers from several climate initiatives said in the run-up to COP27 that the 1.5-degree target has not been reached in all areas so far. “The hard truth is that none of the 40 indicators we assessed are on track for the 2030 targets”, said scientist Kelly Levin on Thursday. It will be all the more important that the climate conference leads to concrete solutions.
