Ex-Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer speaks in the star about the World Cup in Qatar and why it is “worth every effort” to support the Emirate of Qatar on its current path, why Ukraine has to win the war against Russia and what he thinks of feminist foreign policy.
Mr Fischer, would you have expected that we would have to seriously discuss the possibility of a nuclear strike in Europe in 2022?
No, I thought humanity would have completely different problems in the 21st century, such as the global climate. Like all Germans my age, I spent many years of my life under the threat of nuclear weapons during the Cold War. It is banal: as long as they exist, they can always be used. However, after 1989 I did not expect that a major war could return to Europe in such a way.
