Protest: demonstrators on the construction site for the gas pipeline in Brunsbüttel

A new terminal for liquid gas in Brunsbüttel is scheduled to go into operation at the turn of the year. But the project also has opponents. Several demonstrators make their protest clear at a pipeline construction site.

Several demonstrators protested against the federal government’s energy policy on Wednesday morning at the construction site of a gas pipeline in Brunsbüttel. The action was peaceful and calm, said a spokesman for the police. According to the information, 10 to 15 people occupied construction machinery and hung up banners. The pipeline is intended to connect the mobile liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal being built in the port of Brunsbüttel to the existing natural gas network.

The activists said they wanted to use the protest to “draw public attention to the massive impact of liquid natural gas on the world’s climate.” They called for the complete gas phase-out and the dismantling of existing gas infrastructure.
